If there’s one thing Slightly Stoopid has figured out after three decades of bending genres, smoking weed, and making music for the beach, it’s this: the intersection of cannabis, music and good vibes isn’t just a lifestyle. It’s a calling.
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe! Now, the Ocean Beach, CA legends are back with a new track that feels tailor-made for high-minded summer nights, lazy afternoons, and those playlists where Cypress Hill meets the Dead and reggae melts into hip-hop.
“The Upside Down,” featuring none other than B-Real (Cypress Hill) and Chali 2na (Jurassic 5, Ozomatli), officially drops July 18, but High Times readers are getting the first listen right here, right now.

Psychedelic Reggae, West Coast Hip-Hop, and Love Over Fear
Blending Stoopid’s trademark sun-drenched reggae soul with B-Real’s unmistakable smoke-soaked delivery and Chali 2na’s legendary baritone boom, “The Upside Down” feels like the kind of tune you hear once and assume it’s already been around forever. It’s hypnotic, it’s heavy on groove, and it’s got its heart in the right place.
“We’re stoked to release ‘The Upside Down’ with hip hop legends B-Real of Cypress Hill and Chali 2na,” Slightly Stoopid told High Times. “The song has an underlying theme of more love in this world. The magnitude of music bringing us all together is real and supersedes the narrative of negativity in this life. We are stronger as one, smoke stack it and enjoy the ride!”
Recorded at the iconic Sonic Ranch in Texas, this track is a first taste of the band’s upcoming tenth studio album, dropping in 2026 — their first in eight years.
Lighting Joints with Laser Beams (Because Why Not?)
Speaking of Texas… Kyle McDonald recently gave fans something else to talk about. Mid-performance of the band’s 2008 classic “No Cocaine” down in Irving, TX, he casually sparked up a massive joint using nothing but a laser beam from the stage light show. Yes, really.
Light hits joint. Kyle hits joint. Crowd goes wild. Slightly Stoopid keeps playing. Another day at the office.
Also worth noting: proceeds from those Texas shows helped support Kern County flood relief efforts. Good people, good weed, good karma.

Why It Matters (Beyond the Obvious Weed Reasons)
Slightly Stoopid’s journey is pure California cannabis folklore:
- Co-signed by Sublime’s Bradley Nowell while they were still teenagers
- A 30-year run of blending punk, reggae, hip-hop, and jam band grooves into their own thing
- Cultivating a community of stoners, surfers, Deadheads, and hip-hop heads who’ve been along for the ride from day one
Now? They’re still writing new chapters. And “The Upside Down” feels like both a reflection and a celebration of everything that’s kept them going.
